This morning I was at a clients house visiting with a little girl in first grade who has been in and out of foster care her whole life. She had on a dress with flowers all over it, had a big bow in her hair and wore the biggest and prettiest little smile you could imagine . During my assessment with her foster mother she picked up my keys and noticed my skeleton key - her eyes got so big and bright as she gasped for air and shouted ohhhh myyy gosh!! you live in a castle!!! She was so excited!! I explained to her that I dont live in a castle but I do have a really pretty front door. Then she said i always new castles were real!!! My real mommy told me that they arent real I told her yes! they ARE real! Ive seen them before and they are beautiful!! Then she said that she hoped to live in one someday. She sat there and played with my key for a while and then she gasped for air again exclaiming that she had the best idea ever! and asked if I would take her and her little sister to live with me :( Man. If I could take them to Disney right now, I would. Life through the eyes of a child is so fairy tale-ish. Its a shame that as we grow older it all goes away.
