I was asked by one of my followers about the effects of menopause - TopicsExpress

I was asked by one of my followers about the effects of menopause and asthma and here’s what I found: Asthma and hormones are somewhat related because after puberty asthma is more prevalent in women than men. Some believe that sharp decreases in estradiol may be related with an increased risk of asthma flares. However experts aren’t sure of the relationship between asthma and menopause. Some studies show that pulmonary symptoms, including wheezing, are more prevalent after menopause, some other studies found no relation between the incidence of asthma and menopause transition and postmenopausal status. If a woman starts to suffer from asthma after menopause only, it may be very severe. Interestingly, some studies showed that current use of hormone therapy may increase the risk of asthma. This association seems to be more prominent in lean women. One study found that estrogen/progesterone therapy had a positive effect on women suffering from asthma. Studies involving more women are needed to better evaluate the effect of hormone therapy on asthma.
