I was asked to share what I sent to the Governor. Here it is. Governor Kitzhaber, I am writing to ask that you intervene in the release of cop killer Sidney Porter. Beyond the fact that much new information was brought to the attention of the parole board at the Judicial Committee hearing, this is truly a community safety issue. The psychiatrist determined that Porter has a medium to high likelihood to reoffend. That should be enough in itself to stop his release. The parole board is placing everyone in harms way. In 2011 you established the Medal of Ultimate Sacrifice, to honor those who paid the ultimate price for us. How can you now stand by and watch a cop killer go free? Ceremonies are well and good to remind us of the dangers our public servants face, but we must not just pay lip service to them and their loved ones. Please, please stop this in the name of hundreds of wives, husbands, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters whose loved one was killed keeping us safe. Mary Nunnenkamp
