I was asked to write a review of this book by Walter Rhein and Im finally doing it. its The Reader Of Acheron. This is the book by Walter and it doesnt disappoint. dont be discouraged by the softball title. Your not going to be inundated by a long diatribe about somebody whos reading all the time. Theres plenty of action and adventure for those that crave that stuff. This book is not so much a fantasy as it is a postapocalypse story where everybody got back into the sword wielding habit. Its not a masterpiece like Canticle For Leibowitz but its not trying to be. Its a good beginning book for an ongoing series and Walters characters are much more three dimensional then David Eddings characters in the Belgariad. After the holocaust, whatever it was, the wrong people take charge and outlaw reading in any form in order to suppress the lower class.Anyone who defies that order are punished or executed. There is a group of people that get saddled with the term zombies. I wasnt fond of that overmuch as; for me, zombies are voodoo and one of the reasons I like The Walking Dead is that Kirkman refuses to call them zombies. If they consume other people, theyre ghouls not zombies, but thats just me. At least these make more sense in Walters book as to why they exist then most of the zombie (should be ghouls) subgenre. Well I dont want to give too much away but I just want to say, in this book Walter delivers.
