I was at the free kitchen the other night and a man. [....waiting for his son, to exit some Wesley College function...] Asked me, what the free kitchen was about..... I explained its many things..... amongst which is people coming together and supporting each other and learning how to disconnect from dehumanising effects of the charity mentality cycle. His reply to my question..... [that if the state worked...... Why is their homeless and hungry people on the streets....] Was........ its a persons choice to live on the streets...... My mind was thinking..... Ya need to get ya head out of ya arse fella..... what reasonable person..... chooses to live on the streets....[... granted, their is some who do make that choice..... many dont have the luxury of deciding.....] I relayed my thoughts about a system that will crush a person and then punish or marganilise them.... for not bearing the load... And Maslows thoughts about safety being a fundamental step in ones emotional and cognitive development..... And How...... the feed was only part of what unfolds during such gatherings.. its a way of engaging anothers humanity.... and maybe..... [....No maybe for me....... I see it for my own eyes...] This has a positive flow on ripple effect in the everyday lifes of individuals and the community.. Too which I added...... Is there any harm in that.? He ceded there wasnt..... but I still feel he parted with the hypocrisy that accompanied his privileged ignorance.
