I was born on the 13th February, 1915, at Natmauk, a township headquarters in Magwe district. My ancestors were rural gentry and patriots. I want first to the Vernacular High School at Natmauk, then to the National High School at YeNanGyaung. I took an arts degree at the Yangon University with English literature, modern history and political science, and also read law for a time. I won scholarships and prizes and a bright academic career seemed to be open to me. But politics called me away. At the University, I was threatened with expulsion for fighting for the right of fellow students. In fact, it was my suspension for three years which touched off the students strike of 1936. I took part in the leadership of strike, which spread all over the country, and I lost one year of study thereby. As a student leader at the Yangon University, I served as editor of the Oway magazine, organ of the Students Union, as vice-president, and later, president, of the Union and as one of the founders and president of all the all Myanmar Students Union. I also served on the university Act Amendment Committee, appointed by the government early in 1938, and succeeded in getting a fairly progressive University Act passed by the Legislature. That Act was cause of much agitation among the students all over the country and of the strikes of 1920 and 1936. I also wrote articles for the local English and Myanmar press and served for a time on the editorial staff on New Myanmar, the only English language Journal in those days which was owned, managed and edited by Burmans. #GeneralAungSan Part #One #HtaitHtarKhin
