I was cleaning out some old emails this afternoon. I was looking at what we were discussing back in 2002. It seems that little has changed, we were having the same issues then as now. Only now our country is closer to being a socialist state. Here then is an email I sent to a friend back in 2002. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lets face it, liberalism is a force at work in society today. And that is not bad. We live in a great nation. One that is founded on the principles of freedom and the right of citizens to have their own opinions. We do not have to all agree. Dont use Republican or Democrat for a moment. I am a conservative person. This means I believe in or adhere to what are called traditional values. The notion that a family is the core unit of society. The notion that the family is the seat of learning and education and that the school system, private or public, is only to augment what is taught in the home. The notion of self sufficiency dictates that members of the family work in unison for their own maintenance and that wages are earned through honest labor. I believe that the founding fathers established the constitution to grant me the right and privilege to pursue these things as long as I do not, through my actions, deny these same rights to anyone else. I have a strong religious background and therefore believe that certain life styles are inappropriate and I teach my children accordingly. But only that the lifestyles are inappropriate, not that the people making those choices are bad. Rather I teach that all men are Gods children and we are not their judge. I abhor sin but I love all men. Now there are those whose views differ. They believe the state, not the family, should be the caregiver and educator of our children. For example, Former First Lady and now Senator Hillary Clinton - D, New York believes that it takes a village or community to raise children. Her implication is that social programs can benefit those familys where both parents work or a single parent struggles to make ends meet while raising a family. Liberalism also embodies the notion of tolerance and acceptance of all actions that people take regardless of the outcome or consequences. There is a notion that there is no absolute right or wrong. A phrase or theme I am starting to hear again from the 70s is If it feels good, do it. The attacks on The Boy Scouts of America by gay and lesbian groups is a prime example of how those who embrace liberalism are unhappy and only seek to tear down what they cannot have themselves. Instead of using their energies to a common good, they seek the deprive others of their freedom to congregate together on the basis of a shared belief system. The Scout Oath and Law characterize the goals of the scouting movement started in England in 1903 by Lord Baden Powel. A Scout is trustworhty, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obidient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the scout law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. If someone is willing to abide by these virtues they are welcome to join. If someone is not interested in maintaining these values then why would they want to join? Yet there are those who want to join scouting but dont want scouting to be scouting anymore. This then is one example of the level of depravity to which the forces of evil, in the guise of liberalism, have extended themselves in order to destroy this country and the society which we enjoy. Misery loves company. Dont get me wrong. I am not saying that all liberals are this way. Nor am I saying that all liberals are democrats. Remember I took the party names out at the top of this discussion. The so called religious right ultra conservative thought is really no better. They seek to force all people into seeing their way. I can agree with their motives and I can understand their desires a little better but they seek to remove peoples free choices. To sum up, my previous statement; I believe that the founding fathers established the constitution to grant me the right and privilege to pursue these things as long as I do not, through my actions, deny these same rights to anyone else pretty much is the embodiment of my feelings. If everyone would just take a step back and look at their actions and use the above phrase as a test, we would be fine. People would still be free to pursue alternatives and I would still be free to disagree with them but by the same token they would not be free to punish me or the groups I choose to associate with.
