I was convinced to believe that if I worked hard & gave endless - TopicsExpress

I was convinced to believe that if I worked hard & gave endless effort, I would have the opportunity to attend the college of my dreams. I accomplished one portion of the battle, the admissions process & that, in itself, is a blessing that I am grateful for. However, I find myself in the middle of another battle, one in which I lack any control over. I thought I knew the reality of this whole college money war. But I cannot help but be disappointed when I stare at the net costs for several of the schools I wish to attend. As a low income student, I have faced financial burdens my entire life, & I thought maybe just maybe, the combination of hard work & being a low income student would pave an affordable path to the colleges of my dreams. I was so wrong. Its not a loss, in a sense. Simply a disappointment, a huge one. Money has stood in the way my entire life & here it goes again, stopping me & stopping many others in the same situation. I think its obvious when I say that our system is corrupted. Few low income students make it out, but the rest of us continue to be pushed down by factors out of our control. Hard work & most importantly, necessary assistance, are going unrecognized. Low Income Student: 0 College Money War: 1 Schools are shouting out that cost should not be the primary factor in your decision to apply or to attend but thats such a lie. The biggest lie. It is the primary factor, & for low income students, cost always has been. I will never understand why the one thing that is supposed to get us far in life (a college education) is also the one thing that will leave us struggling due to debt. I have struggled for far too long & so have many others, when will it be our time? When will we win the battle? The answers to such questions instill absolute disappointment in me. Call this a complaint, if you wish. Say that I am whining, if you wish. A rant? Absolutely.
