I was educated today. I had always thought that 4-H animals were kept by the families as pets and show animals. After all they are brought up with great care and attention. The animals of these 4-H kids are used to be petted, brushed, led about by a leash or carried. They trust humans enough to stand while fair goes pass by and pet them, or judge them. I learn today the awful truth I was unaware of. At the end of the fair season they are sold at auction for meat. In the words of the Auctioneer they are processed. Is that suppose to sound better. Why don’t you just say killed. At least be upfront and honest about it. I have heard hunters say they are harvesting deer, or whatever it is they are killing that season. I harvest the potatoes in my garden, you are killing deer. A friend of mine even had a friend who said she was transitioning her ducks! I ask her “What are you transitioning them too?” What a sad life lesson for children to learn. The life of an animal is to be used for the moment and then betrayed, killed, to make way for the next pusdo pet. blue ribbon hopeful. How sad, how terribly sad.
