I was given a challenge by my precious friend, Kandra Gannaway, to quote one of my favorite scriptures and the why of it. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. I love this scripture because it presents a guideline from which to pattern our love after. Because even when we, as humans, fail miserably from time to time...love never fails. Even when we cant see it, the seeds sown through love go deep and eventually grow. I think, often, we blow it in the Love is patient part. Scattering seeds of love and giving up on someone because they dont grow as we would like them to. Human frustration at its finest. Theres a reason that patience is the first guideline. I admire those who continue to love when there is no evidence of hope or change. It shows their faithfulness to a love they were graced to know and share. But mostly...it shows their faithfulness to God...His love and grace. There are many varying types and levels of love...friend, child, parent, sibling, significant other, husband, wife, extended family etc...yet, whether youre a believer or not, you have to admit...all will be best experienced under the guidelines of 1 Corinthians 13. The older we become the more we understand that love truly is the answer to all things. 1 Corinthians 13: 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. I challenge these women to do the same...Denise Gilbreath Steele, Rhonda Lettow, Nancy Hutchins, Shona Daniels-Hackett, Kerri Fulton Sundy. :-)
