I was given the number 9 by my friend Cindy Schilling Nepsund. So, 9 things you may not know about me: 1) The high school football field in my hometown (Estherville, IA) is named after my dad. 2) I once stole a street sign in Iowa City, IA. There was a road named Marcy Street and we were convinced that this sign would make the perfect graduation present for out friend Marcy Gale...beer may have been involved in the decision-making process!! 3) I traveled Europe one summer with my friend Heidi Hoye Toale and had everything for the trip packed in one backpack. My husband cannot believe this! 4) Olympic track star Jesse Owens visited our home when I was a little girl. My mom said he was very kind to the Luithly kids. He was there to visit my dad, who was sick at the time. 5) I was the party-planning mom of Gideon Pond Elementary-I made a ghost golf game, an ice fishing game out of a Styrofoam cooler...we had lots of fun! 6) I am a bit of a trivia nut...my specialties would be music, movies and literature. Just the other night someone couldnt remember what book Dostoevsky wrote. They thought War and Peace...nope, Crime and Punishment. 7) My friend Linda Eisenmenger and I once broke into the boys clubhouse in our neighborhood...wonder if they ever knew who took their candy. They had hidden it in a buried coffee can...that did not deter us!! 8) I once spent Christmas Eve (1982 or 83) completely alone. I was supposed to drive to my brothers house, but a huge snow storm nipped those plans in the bud...could not even get to church. Read the Christmas story from the Bible and watched that really old 1930s version of A Christmas Carol. Made it to my brothers the next day. 9) By the time I was 21, I had no living parents or grandparents. I sure wish I could have had them for longer, but I really do feel so privileged to have had these amazing people in my life at all (I never knew my maternal grandparents, gone before I was born, but my dads parents were amazing people, as were my parents).
