I was going to my rental to cut down some dead trees the other - TopicsExpress

I was going to my rental to cut down some dead trees the other day. I know very stupid but rockin the country cost a lot of money so that means I have to forget my fear of heights and how dangerous cutting down a dead tree can be and get it done. Back to my story... I was a little put out. I didnt wanna cut these trees down for the second day in a row because its like 90 in FL and I have to be on the phone with venues, media, emails etc. I was coming down a road into a main intersection to a yield sign and this older gentleman was trying to cross a double intersection with a bridge on one side. He was blind. I stopped my SUV and waited for him to pass. I thought to myself this guy has to play Frogger just to get all the way across with yield signs on both sides. I know people hate to yield let alone stop. As I sat at the yield sign I felt cars getting a little testy behind me. The gentleman got half way across and became scared and went back to where he started. My heart sank cause I would hate to be that confused or afraid of what I couldnt see. I put my truck in park jumped out and said, Where are you going? He said I need to get to Walmart. I said get in my truck and Ill take you. He says, Thank you Jesus! Im not sure if he thought I was Jesus? (JK) The cars behind me totally got the gist and remained patient. I opened my truck door and looked back, he was reaching out for my hand. I didnt realize, for a split second, I needed to show him where the truck door was. I didnt pity him. I took his hand and showed him the door and that was all. He managed to settle in just fine. I asked the gentleman why he was going south instead of north. Did you get off on the wrong bus? No I walked. I was told it was this way. He was only off by a 1/4 mile and happen to live where my apartments are 3 miles away, yes 3 miles away. I asked him how he went blind. Had he been born blind he would be accustomed to all the travel. He proceeded to tell me he had a bad case of glaucoma and he hoped he didnt lose his mind trying to figure out how to live. Pulling up to Wal-Mart he proceeds to tell me that he is applying for a job! A JOB! He could get assistance, maybe not enough to live a lavish life, but enough. This gentleman wasnt having any of that! I told him the entrance door to Wal-Mart was to his left. After I saw him enter the store I drove away. I know I dont have to explain the meaning behind this story. Yes he was afraid, uncertain, confused, yet determined, strong and courageous. I plan to go back to Wal-Mart and tell them what this man went through and they need to find him something. PS... Cutting down those trees didnt feel so bad.
