I was going to see a friend one tuesday morning. Passing by a primary school, I overheard a teacher in a class asking the children, what is 1+1? The children said; 8. The teacher said; Correct. I was amazed at this and stopped. I asked myself, does this teacher know what he is teaching? Before I could fathom an answer to my self asked question. The teacher asked; What is 2+5? The children said; 14. The teacher said; Correct. This is getting interesting, I said to myself and decided to stand and watch this piece of drama. While I watched, I felt sorry for the educational system in Nigeria. Did the government actually employed this man? Or he just woke up one morning and decided to come teach in the school without being questioned. While standing, watching and wondering, the teacher asked; What is 4+6? The children said; 20. The teacher said; Good! I then made up my mind. Since he doesnt know what he is teaching, I should go correct him. I tried getting off from where I was stuck to move to correct him but, as I was about moving, he said to the children; It will remain like this until, the government pays me my salary!
