I was impressed with the sermon of Moruti Thuso Tiego yesterday at the requiem of our late leader, Cde Sir G. The sermon was delivered with amazing eloquence and moving candour. The rendition was not mere facility with words: the man of God was speaking truth to power! It was one of those rare instances where a man of the cloth ivolves himself in the national democratic polity of this country, which is positive development. It is hoped that many more members of the clergy will emulate his example and not fiddle, as many of them are presently doing, while Rome is burning. You see, victims of these misterious deaths may be politicians, tomorrow it be may be the clergy. Thus, the problem concerns all men of conscience. I remember Martin Niemoller who famoulsy stated: First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a communist; Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me— and there was no one left to speak out for me.”
