I was in a West Brunswick alley, not a picturesque bluestone one, - TopicsExpress

I was in a West Brunswick alley, not a picturesque bluestone one, eating the first stolen plum of the season & wondering whether the white cockatoos in the sheoak were those weird corellas Nici Lindsay saw a while ago or ordinary sulphur crested ones. When I found a weak white newborn kitten staggering about and mewing in a strangely birdlike way. Then I heard another one, which turned out to be in a plastic bag. It says a lot for Brunswickians that they do not turn a hair to see a middle aged lady carrying kittens in a bag made of her skirt down Hope St on a mild Monday night. Thank you very much to the RSPCA, my first call; although at first they sent me on a daisy chain of vets and after hours services and the Moreland City Council. But the council duty officer called Belinda at the RSPCA and she came and took my little starving mewing white kittens away. *phew*
