I was introduced to this gadget by Vijay Vusirikala & Ambika Pajjuri a couple of weeks ago. I was excited enough by the concept of it when I heard about it that I immediately took my Fire Phone out and a couple of gentle taps on the screen later, the confirmation of my order of the same showed up. South Indian filter coffee making has never been so easy ever since. If you are one of those instant coffee drinkers but still consider yourself to be connoisseurs of coffee, I will cut down on my ridicule of you, this once and seriously advice to you try this out. This lean machine makes some kick ass south Indian coffee, in less than a minute. Purists, dont frown! We have been conditioned into thinking that the hot water has to slowly find its way down through the thick mass of that coffee chickory mixture over a few hours for it to absorb the flavors. Id say we have been wasting our time in carefully planning the manufacturing of coffee decoction so that there is some when those guests drop by or when you develop a sudden craving for it. This machine delivers it without fuss. When you purchase it, it comes with plenty of thin foils of roundly cut paper, which is really a filter. Place one in the bottom cup you see in the picture below. The top portion in the picture is a plunger that just pops out of the bottom cup.Place the whole setup over a mug to collect the coffee. Pour coffee powder into the bottom cup in the same proportions as you would with your traditional steel filtering machines. Boil your water in a microwave (stop that frowning now) for 90s. Add that boiled water and stir it gently. Now, insert the plunger back into the cup and gently start pushing it down by applying constant pressure. With in a few seconds you have your coffee decoction and while at it, you get some exercise for your biceps as well. Add your milk and sugar and sip away at your South Indian Filter Coffee. I bet you can never tell that it wasnt prepared in the traditional way. Go ahead, try it out and let me know what you thought of it.
