I was involved in a discussion today regarding Gods judgement of America. At first I was thrown for a bit of a loop because I had a lot of stuff on my mind. But offered my thoughts. God is not mad at America. He is not here to pour out His wrath. He already did that on the Cross. God has NOTHING but Grace for me and you! Does that mean there are not consequences? Of course not. There are laws. Such as the Law of Gravity. If I jump off my house, The Law of Gravity will probably kick in and assure my injury. God still has Grace for me but He wont defy His own laws. When Jesus came the game changed. Grace entered the world as a person. Lets use Jesus as an example. Only when He got angry at the defilement of the temple (overturning the money changers tables, etc.), did Jesus display anger and consequences. Every time He spoke and witnessed to the sinners he simply said, Go and sin no more. It doesnt say whether the person did or not. However today, we want to keep score, point out others shortcomings, wait for retribution on our enemies or at least those we dont agree with, etc. ( Sort of sounds like the Sadducees and Pharisees doesnt it!) God is a loving, forgiving, forgetful, longsuffering, compassionate, ill give what you cant give, Graceful God. I believe it saddens Him when we mis-represent His Grace and Spirit. We either try to help God do His job by focusing on others shortcomings, or we try to justify our own self-loathing beliefs by focusing on others shortcomings in the name of God believing that perhaps eventually we will feel better about ourselves. We at least Im not like________. Either way we are wrong. Under the New Covenant, God is not out to get us, He is not mad, He is not ready to wipe us out. Yes there are consequences to our decisions or lack of leadership. But not coming from God. We live in a fallen world where the enemy , lurks around like a lion seeking whom he can devour. However, we have been given the Full authority of God via His Holy Spirit to conquer the enemy and recover what God has already given us. However, to do so, we must see ourselves through His eyes, and then walk in that truth.
