I was listening to a talk on friendship, John Morgan. I loved what he said. A real friend talks to you while others talk about you………..hmmm that got me thinking to how often I have done that and seen it done and that led me to the thoughts on empathy below. We live a disconnected society where people are aching for connection and we have not learned how to give it , first to ourselves, then to others. In hopes that I might have a greater ability to experience empathy from myself and then be able to offer it to others. In realizing this I had apologies to make to the people I love the most, who gently offered empathy when I shared my sorrow at being judgmental, and holding my own perspective instead of offering empathy when they needed it the most. To the very best family in the world. Jim Abel, Danielle Abel, Andrew Abel and Shaelynn Abel. I love you Empathy: Four qualities of empathy: perspective taking, staying out of judgement, recognizing emotion in other people and then communicating that,, empathy is feeling with people, empathy fuels connection, sympathy drives disconnection……………….. empathy, I know what it is like down here and you are not alone……………..sympathy, Oh, its bad……Do you want a sandwich?…….Empathy is a vulnerable choice, in order to connect with you I have to connect with something in myself that knows that feeling. One of the things we do in the face of very difficult conversation is we try to make things better. Rarely can a response make things better, what makes things better is connection! https://youtube/watch?v=1Evwgu369Jw
