I was looking into my Romine family on my maternal grandmothers paternal grandmothers fathers side. My 3rd Great Grandfather Thomas Eugene Kasingers mother was named Lucinda Romines. I was told that her father was Irish and mother was Cherokee by my 3rd Great Grandfathers grandson, Thomas Kasinger (maternal first cousin of my maternal grandmothers father). The Romine line was originally Romeyn. The Romeyns immigrated from Amsterdam, Holland to New Amsterdam, New York in 1670s and married into other Dutch families. My Romine family line was actually Dutch and not Irish. Its possible that one of my Romine forefathers married an Irish woman. Layton Romines 2nd wife, Elizabeth was said to have been Cherokee. I dont know if my 5th Great Grandfather John Romine was a descendant of Layton though. I believe he was from the same line. I checked the Census Records. In 1850 Census, She was listed as Lucinda Romine age 16 born in Tennessee The head of the household was Sarah Romine age 36 born in Tennesee others listed were Susan Romine age 14 born in Tennesee Angaline Romine age 9 born in Kentucky Nancy Romine age 7 born in Kentucky They were living in Kentucky at the time. There were no males in the household at the time. It looks like the father was out of the picture. My family only knows his full name.
