I was making an article about two types of ideologies for Korman - snobs/moralists versus haters/resenters, in various dimensions of resentment: tribe, gender and class, comparing intersecting resentment-based ideologies of Angry [Insert Ethnicity Here] Man like National-Socialism, Jihadism, Mens Rights Movement, Neo-Stalinism, etc, and how they basically describe one thing from different angles. I compared them to ideologies that are based on position of privilege and seek to consolidate and rationalize this privilege or just self-congratule (like Western Liberalism, Western Feminism, etc), because they were new to me - absolutely all ideologies in Russia (even pro-Western and elitist ones) are resentment-based, Ive never really seen Russian snob. No matter how rich, nobody feels secure here, everybody is insecure/hateful/resentful/etc, even though they are technically on opposite ends of ideological spectrum - and this spectrum basically looked like entirely random thing to me, hiding deeper truth. Russians who demand to destroy Russia or those who want Russia to conquer the planet had absolutely identical psychotypes, and often swapped one for the other, and then swap back. (I certainly tried every possible ideology.) I became familiar with snobist/moralist worldview only after talking with Oscar about his Swedish adoptive parents, and then discussing politics with American Leftists like Korman. Their POV was very different from POV of Commies/Nazis/Jihadists/Stalinists/MRAs/Russian_Liberals/etc. I decided not to post the article because it was obviously politically incorrect. But Charlie Hebdo discussions re-opened this topic. So, this Zizek article made me think about the topic again. Slavoj jumps around the issue but never directly states it, even though its obvious: Islamism has nothing to do with ideology or religion, its tribal resentment towards dominant enemy tribe, which makes you rally against tribal totem. For Muslims, its usually Islam, but there are lots of other tribal totems. European whites have St.Hitler, American whites have 50ies, Russians have St.Stalin and Tzars, etc. Muslims are (un)lucky of having religion-based totem, which is closer to truth than simple worshiping/demonizing the past as ordinary resenter usually does. Basically, very small percentage of humans on this world feel that it is their planet, but most are too disorganized to do anything, and their totems are just too local to matter. The reason why Soros considers Russian actions on the Ukraine an existential threat to the West is because Russia taps into internal Western totems via European Right. Chinese have more resources, but Mao or Sun Tzu wont inspire Europeans to denounce NATO and E.U. And Soviet Communism was forced meme - it wasnt tribal even to Russians, let alone to other Europeans. We can discuss Islamic groups and whether they are good or bad, etc, but they are basically just representation of tribal rage that is shared by absolute majority of humanity. BTW, these gamergates, school shootings, etc, is also form of tribal rage, but from white youth. Gender-based resentment of single male is important factor in almost every radical resentment-based movement, but in the West it also exists in pure form as MRAs. But thats another story. Any professional revolutionary will tell you: 99% of people who leave radical political parties, do it not because they are arrested/killed/etc, but because they get a girlfriend/wife. Rationalization of resentment is the basis of all radical politics. However, resentment is primary, while how you rationalize it is secondary.
