I was nominated by Finn van Gelderen to put up my top 15 filums. - TopicsExpress

I was nominated by Finn van Gelderen to put up my top 15 filums. Impossible task, so I put together 15 films I would be happy having on a desert island, if only allowed 15, sort of thing. I could be really arty and up my own arse, but I am being honest instead. I am Cuba (Я Куба) - 1964, Mikhail Kalatozov (cinematography by Sergey Urusevsky, who deserves a special mention). Just one of the most amazingly shot films of all time. Some Like it Hot - 1959, Billy Wilder. I fell in love with cinema when I saw this movie. Lacombe Lucien - 1974, Louis Malle. I fell in love with French cinema when I saw this one. The Dark Knight - 2008, Christopher Nolan. Despite Christian Bales grunting, this is the best comic book film I ever did see, though SinCity comes close. Le Fabuleux Destin dAmélie Poulain (Amélie) - 2001, Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Just a fabulously told tale, both narratively and cinematographically Kes - 1969, Ken Loach. Dated but fantastic gritty Yorkshire tale which had to be subtitled for its US release. Blade Runner (directors cut) - 1982, Ridley Scott. No need to explain why. Cinema Paradiso (not the directors cut) - 1988, Giuseppe Tornatore. Lovely lovely film, ruined by the extra material added for the re-release. Pulp Fiction - 1994, Quentin Tarantino. 20 years old and still I get the scene order wrong when I watch it. Close call between this and Kill Bill. Leon - The Professional - 1994, Luc Besson. Goodfellas - 1990. Martin Scorsese. My favourite Scorsese movie, closely followed by Taxi Driver Lawrence of Arabia - 1962, David Lean. Good year for film making, this was released and I was born :-D Amazingly influential film. A Clockwork Orange - 1971, Stanley Kubrick. 136 minutes of pure awesomeness. Eraserhead - 1977, David Lynch. Saw this in 1982/3 and was blown away. Never seen anything like it before (or since). In Bruges - 2008, Martin McDonagh. I can watch this time and time again and still laugh out loud. Superb dialogue. This just beat Good Bye, Lenin. I wont nominate anybody as I am probably too late with this list anyway.
