I was on the way to work this morning... taking PT today and I was - TopicsExpress

I was on the way to work this morning... taking PT today and I was waiting at the bus stop. As usual I had headphones in listening to music. I noticed through the noise in my ears a young disabled man talking to a high school girl. She seemed uncomfortable so I stopped the music to see what was happening. The man seemed to have safe intention and was doing no harm, but he was saying things to the effect of Youre the prettiest girl in the world... All the other girls are ugly, but youre not... The girl eventually took some distance and moved away. The man began swearing at cars and people around him...Saying No one is ever nice to me, everyone is so mean, nobody cares about Alex... nobody...I got up and approached him and helped him to down regulate and ground himself. We talked for a while until the bus arrived. When it did..The girl offered the man a seat next to her. From what I observed, the girl had watched our interaction and been able to see the true self of the young man that she had been nervous around earlier. She was able to see that man... Not just the behavior. I watched for a moment while they talked... Though it was obvious everything was fine. That one moment of choosing to interact with that man despite the voices in my head telling me to not bother and keep listening to music; changed the day for both those people, and for me too. There are a million opportunities every day to make the world a better place..but theyre small, subtle. So we have to stay conscious of our surroundings to see them. And neuroscience tells us that compassion takes practice... At first we have to work at it. But with repetition and continuation our brains literally change into a physical and mental structure where compassion is part of life. Please share this story around...Please share stories with me and everyone else about your compassion and good doing. And this is not about gloating or looking for nice points for me. I truly believe a shift is happening...a revolution of consciousness and compassion is coming. And every good and loving act brings us closer to this revolution. If nothing else, thank you for reading this far. It means a lot that I know there are so many friends and loved ones who are with me on this and we are walking together on this journey. Thank you for being a part of my life... You all inspire me every day.
