I was out in the field during the last five days conducting participatory end line evaluation of IIRRs project in typhoon Haiyan affected area. The three major outcomes that we reviewed with key project beneficiaries include: establishing a psychosocial support program for communities, livelihood options for recovery and long term resilience and capacity development for community managed disaster risk reduction for the local government units (LGUs). We used participatory tools to engage the project stakeholders actively. The stakeholders include: the psycho social support program core group members, the local government units at the barangay (15 of them) and the municipal levels which includes the Municipal Agriculture Officer, the Municipal Planning development Officer, the Municipal DRRM Council, etc and the farmers: coconut, rice, vegetable and fisher folks. It was very much appreciated by the stakeholders. They said that it was the first time that an NGO did a presentation on results, challenges and ways forward to them. They were looking at the event as something that they would require NGOs implementing projects in the area.
