I was part of my highschool band. During summer, it was marching season as we played halftime for the football team. During winter was orchestra where we played more orchestral pieces. My band never sounded this good but we played this song, nonetheless and it was an amazing feeling to be a part of this sound. The story goes that the composer, John Barnes Chance, felt music being written for highschoool-level band students was too tame, with the assumption that kids couldnt play anything really exciting. This bothered him, so he wrote this piece, Incantation and Dance, to push and stretch the limits of highschoolers without going out of their bounds. I think he succeeded wonderfully, as even my podunk band sounded admirable at it. I assure you this recording, from a Tokyo school, is far superior, and is how this composition is meant to sound.
