I was reading through the news articles and updates online about the current snow situation, and more than anything, I find myself getting irritated at the comments from Northerners and other people who are basically acting like were getting bent out of shape over a measly two inches of snow. Alabama is NOT prepared for winter weather, especially when that winter weather gets a mind of its own and dumps down on parts of the state where NO ONE, not even the meteorologists, expected it. Days like today are rare, but can be disastrous for a southern state. The snow and ice literally came out of the blue for most of the Birmingham and surrounding areas, and their are hundreds of people stranded apart from their families and sleeping in their cars tonight, not because they are horrible drivers, or wimps that cant deal with a little snow... but, because NO Alabamian that I know would ever shell out money to purchase snow tires just in case we get unexpected snow. Nor, would (or should) the state of Alabama purchase enough snowplows and salt trucks for an event that may - or may not - happen every few years or so. Yeah, the snow was cute and funny this morning, but to see how bad its gotten out there and to STILL have people shouting LOL at our measly two inches of snow is almost insulting. Ignorance is not becoming. Stop being an arrogant jerk, and say a prayer for the people who are literally building fires on the interstate right now just to keep warm.
