I was reading verse 102 of Surah Baqarah in which a mention was made of Hadhrat Suliman (alayhi assalaam): وما كفر سليمان ولكن الشياطين كفروا In the tafseer of this verse Sheikh Al-Islam Hadhrat Mufti Taqi Usmani (hafizahullah) mentions: In order to justify their involvement in magic, some jews attributed to Sulaiman (alayhi assalaam) that he used to practice magic. Since the formulas used in magic amounted to kufr (infidelity), magic had been referred to here as kufr. An additional hint in this verse is to refutation of the belief of the jews that Sulaiman (alayhi assalaam) had, God forbid, became an apostate at the end of his life, and instigated by some women, had started worshipping idols. This is what the Old Testament of the Bible attributes to him. (See 1 Kings 11: 1-12) The Holy Quran refutes this allegation. End of quote. This is what the Bible mentions about one of the greatest messengers of Allah Taala sent to humanity to guide them and take them to Paradise: 11:1 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: 11:2 Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. 11:3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. 11:4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. 11:5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 11:6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. 11:7 Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. 11:8 And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods. 11:9 And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, 11:10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded. 11:11 Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. 11:12 Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy fathers sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. 1 Kings Islam teaches us to respect all the Prophets (alayhim salaam) and to believe in their sinless nature. The Prophets (alayhim salaam) were masum and free from sins so to subscribe to them sins and disbelief is detestable and perverted from the angle of aql and naql. May we live to love and respect all the Prophets (alayhim salaam) and follow the Beloved of Allah Taala (SallAllahu alayhi wasallam) in our words and deeds. To love him (SallAllahu alayhi wasallam) is the essence of everything. It is the Ruh and without Ruh one is a dead body. Let us all in this blessed month, wherein Allah Taala gave and sent us His biggest Blessing (SallAllahu alayhi wasallam), reform our lives to His (SallAllahu alayhi wasallam) ways, and to increase our love for him (SallAllahu alayhi wasallam) with every minute, with every second and with every breath we take. May Allah Taala make it so.
