I was recently in an online debate with the head of a well-known vegan FB page. The page in question shared a news item about vegan director, James Cameron, in which there was no mention of /any/ concern for animals and their right to live free of cruelty. I mentioned that veganism is an ethical stance toward the treatment of non-humans and using the word to denote anything but an ethical stance compromises the term. The other person disagreed and repeated the tired welfarist lines of every little bit helps and if you talk about actual veganism, people get turned off. With all due respect to horses, that stance is total horseshit. Our nonhuman comrades deserve an uncompromised message of veganism delivered by anyone who claims the term. Anything less is selling out the animals. Veganarchist Memes and both of its admins carry a clear message of abolitionist veganism. This page will never share speciesist petitions advocating bigger cages or longer chains. We will never share stories about celebrity faux-vegans. Veganism is the moral baseline and VM is committed to maintaining it. For the animals. /rant [C]
