I was recently thinking about how I understand the Scriptures and the meaning I make of them. It was interesting to reflect on this and I was able to easily identify six sermon titles to be working on for 2015. However, it was once I had them that God really began to speak to me. I was reminded of when I was a little girl and my mother used to tell me the real power was at the name of Jesus. It didnt matter what was happening or what was going to happen or who was involved or anything else like that, all I had to do was call His name and something would happen. She used to tell me, and still does, the strongest, most effective prayer to pray was just the simple act of speaking His name, JESUS :) Then this week, I was driving down the road and listening to one of the new songs on the Passion 2014 album, Take it All. In the chorus to the song, the words went: I am Holding on to You I am Holding on to You In the middle of the storm I am holding on I am At first I sang it passionately, asserting I am holding on to Him; but then, as the song continued, my voice grew soft and my heart began to hear. It heard my mother telling me about the name of Jesus. It heard Isaiahs words about having me engraved on the palms of His hands and how, like a nursing mother, He can never forget me. It heard that He will NEVER leave me or abandon me! And in that moment, I heard the song as He sang it over me. It wasnt me that was holding on to Him in the middle of the storm...It is I AM who holds on to me, in the middle of the storm. My memory verse for this last week was: Phil.2:10-11 And at the name of JESUS, every knee will bow that is in heaven, on earth, and under the earth. And every tongue confess Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
