I was saddened to hear that Joe Bethancourt passed away this past August. For almost 17 years, he was the house band at a little restaurant on 19th Ave. and Bethany Home Rd, in Phoenix, AZ called Funny Fellows, playing instruments from his enormous collection of traditional ( and not so traditional ) instruments. His songs ranged from old ballads and party songs that he learned from his family to modern pieces and original compositions. Joan & I saw him several times during the 80s and early 90s when we resided in Phoenix. Usually we would get a quick burger & beer at a joint called the Wineburger just around the corner on 19th Ave and then meander over to Joes show, which was always a good time. My brother-in-law; Doug Bickett was the first one to turn me on to Joe Bethancourt and I have always loved his southern Appalachian humor. He was not just another guy with a guitar, he was an ENTERTAINER.Enjoy this clip of Joe singing Well Meet Again
