I was shocked moments ago. One of my daughters asked a question that i felt she could bet get the BEST answer to from a BOOK. YES a BOOK, You remember those things?? I sent her into the library, and suggested she look under a certain shelf and number. And she asked me What is that? ( meaning the Dewey-decimal number i related to her on the spine of the book). These kids today, are not taught about a LIBRARY, about looking up books by the Card Catalog system, nor about even the difference between FICTION and non-fiction. She didnt know HOW to seek information from any source than the Internet, and wikipedia which is an entirely UNPROOVEN, un sourced.. and unreliable place to get information. You have NO IDEA if the information which is there has EVER been verified, it is all too often UNTRUE, and barely even applicable. ALSO to sit and read a book , BOOK IN HAND turning pages, is nearly a forgotten event. To QUESTION the VALIDITY of the matter being read ALSO is seemingly no longer an option, IF you read it on the i-net it MUST be true,, a LINE from a TV commercial of only MONTHS AGO, is really now not even LAUGHED AT, no one KNOWS what you mean when you see it a s a JOKE... I am So sad. Al my life i had expected the lives of my children to be closer in the future to the EDEN portrayed in Trek, or Star Wars or even in THE BIBLE. now i see mankind is descending rapidly into the level of Cro-Magnon man again..Cant read, write, or even THINK without an Electronic device. Cant REASON, cant THINK, cant differentiate between truth or fiction. WHAT did i waste my lifetime working for, to give them a BETTER WORLD? SIGH.... Starting tomorrow, here in the HappyBottom School system, on HappyBottom Farms lands, we will be making substantial changes in the course work as CURRENTLY prescribed by the Ukrainian government, and bringing back TEACHING as it was when I attended elementary school in the USA in the 1950s. At the very least, children educated @ HappyBottom In Crimea will get a CHANCE!!
