I was sitting outside enjoying the dark and quiet night late this morning on my patio when frightened by a loud owl hooting. I looked quickly and there it was looking at me, it was enormous. Staring at me intently. It hooted again and again. I googled hooting owls at night and I found this interesting: Owls are one of the oldest species of vertebrate animals in existence, fossils have been found dating back to 60 million years, showing the bird to have changed very little in that time. Mythology includes but not limited to: Greece- sign of good fortune. Rome- sign of impending disaster. Ancient Native Americans- harbingers of sickness and death, protective spirits, souls of departed. Arabia- owls were evil spirits that took children. Some believe events were predicted by the number of owl hoots heard. 1: impending death. 2: success in imminent venture. 3: woman married into the family. 4: disturbance. 5: imminent travel. 6: guests arriving. 7: mental distress. 8: sudden death. 9: good fortune. I really should have paid attention to his hoots. Its anyones guess,....
