I was so proud of our young Boxer learning how to Heel off leash ( beginning to drop the leash) at the park. With the fresh cold air and the smell of wildlife and other dogs - this was so much more difficult than during the last lesson indoors. Because Ozzie was so distracted, we dropped the leash only when he was more focused on his owner, we started with 4-6 steps off leash and then picked up the leash. When Ozzie was more focused again, his owner dropped the leash sgain. If Ozzie became too distracted his owner could quickly step on the leash in order to keep him safe. Then pick up the leash again and back to walking. All calm tones and positive verbal talk.
