I was tagged by Harriet to list 10 books that have stayed with me in some way. 1. Cosmos. Sagan recalibrated my mind. And while he elevated my mental capabilities into a much more mature state, I was still allowed to retain my child-like wonder. 2. Guns, Germs, and Steel. Another mind-expanding romp through a rich combination of various sciences by the brilliant Scholar of Societies, Jared Diamond. (ya, its a National Geographic documentary, but only covers about a third of the book) 3. Shogun. Clavell was the first of several dozen authors I got into heavily who covered The East. I trained in Kempo Karate for a time, and had developed a fascination with Feudal Japan, in particular. So I have to include: 4. Shike, by Robert Shea, and Musashi, by Eiji Yoshikawa. They can share a spot. 5. The 13th Valley. Without exaggerating, Ive read well over 100 novels on the Vietnam War, but John M Del Vecchio had me walkin point like no other. 6. Keeping with the fiction, The Source by Michener. Wow. Hawaii was my first Michener, which was awesome, too. Loved The Drifters, Chesapeake, Space.... 7. Michael Shermers The Science of Good and Evil. His whole Belief series is excellent, but book 3 nailed it for me. Understanding why people cheat, gossip, care, share, and follow the golden rule has been most helpful, not only in my job as a Behavioral Specialist, but with life in general.. Mine is signed by the author. 8. End of Faith. Sam Harris is an excellent thinker and writer. With laser-beam precision, he cuts to the heart of the issue, and owns it. 9.Hitchens - The first thing I ever read by him was an excerpt of The Missionary Position, and I was hooked. Such big, beautiful balls. Honesty really is the best policy, if you want to retain your humanity in an inhumane world. Sorry religion. And same author, but cant be grouped in with his other writings: 10. Mortality, by Christopher Hitchens. I have my reasons for including this, but those are between me and Christopher. Dan, Bernard, Dan, Tom, SJ, David, Dylan, Ozymandias, Kate, Kelly Jo, In your status list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. Dont take more than a few minutes and dont think too hard. The books dont need to be classics. If you really love a particular author, feel free to cheat and include more than one of their books in their entry. Tag 10 friends including me so I can see your list.
