I was talking to a personal trainer about his client who couldnt lose weight. They said to me: As hard as I try to put her on this diet, she simply cant last long on it. She has no willpower. What I found interesting was the immediate decision that it was her fault. She couldnt stick with his diet. Is it possible that it was a poor dietary choice for the person? Is it possible that if you had given her more freedom in her diet plan she would have been able to stick with it? After all, there was only one kind of plan he tried to prescribe her. There were no options, alternatives or negotiations. Compliance is a two way street. Of course, the client needs to be able to adhere to a plan but the trainer needs to make sure that they have devised a plan which maximises the chance of that. You cant blame a client because they didnt like the one plan you tried to put them on. I am dedicated and a compliant client but some diet plans would make me want to put my head through a wall if I tried to stick with them. Remember, the best plan in the world wont yield the best results if you cant stick with them. Find a plan which you can stick with, even if it isnt optimal.
