I was talking with Todd Lewis the other day. He mentioned that he had zipped through the lists of descendants for both Adam and Noah without paying much attention (though I must admit I was fascinated by the name Nimrod). I can understand that, as well as skipping through the first 17 verses of Matthew and all the begats. On the other hand, it does catch my own personal attention. One of my favorite Christian authors is Bob Benson, and in talking about the Bible he once said, Its a me book, too. I find myself in it, maybe not the names in biblical lists, but it reminds me of my own human connections. Some of you know that Ive been The Patriarch of my family for over 6 years... no grandparents, parents, aunts or uncles. My only aunt (my mothers sister) died in 1974, and my dads brother never married. Ive got two younger brothers and their sons... and I had 3 first cousins. The one that was older than me, Bruce, died in the 1990s. I went to communicate with his oldest sister, she was 3 months younger than me, and found her obituary instead. I do have one other cousin, KC, who is 6 days older than Patti. Weve renewed our connection, which is wonderful. Id found out from Allene Fanning that I might have distant cousins in this area. Finally, at her funeral dinner (!) I met both Bill Waddle and Shane Fanning. Most likely my great great grandfather was a brother to his great great grandmother or father... possibly it is at our great grandparent level... he says his mom knows better... Im interested in learning more... in ways, I wish our family trees and ties were listed out like the Bible does Adams and Noahs... Dont you like to feel connected, too? The Bible is about our connection with God and our connection with those around us!
