I was thinking after yesterdays honey collection: If the average bee collects only enough nectar to produce 1/12 tsp of honey in her 42 day life span (I have seen this estimation in several sources), the 2 1/2 gallons we collected yesterday represent an approximate lifetime effort of over 23,000 bees. This figure does not take into account the honey they consume as food during the process--a difficult to determine quantity. This is also not mentioning their pollination efforts, wax production and all out entertainment value. Many thanks, girls.
