I was unaware that I moved from Charlotte, NC to Dodge City or the Wild Wild West. I never considered making the First 48 as a badge of honor or that my city was finally recognized as a real city. I didnt grow up in the projects or hood, where youre from doesnt define who you are, so Im not impressed by all the glory of it. I grew up around working parents and folks who wanted a better life for their children. Keeping it 100 to me means doing the right thing. I dont consider referring to people as female dogs or ignorant as terms of endearment either. And the black on black crime, senseless. Some how weve allowed others to convince us that being black encompasses all things negative, and that is so far from the truth or our heritage. We never settled, we always strived even with all the odds stacked against us. Its easy to be complacent, shiftless and unproductive but thats not what we were designed to do. Theres more to life, get out and experience it. This was brought on by 10 Mins of a reality show and the morning news. We need to be careful of how the media portrays us, I fear our youth are starting to believe them.
