I was very lucky! My dad realized that in 4th grade I still did not know my multiplication tables. At that age, multiplication tables are nothing to understand - that comes later - they are to be memorized. My dad bought a set of multiplication flashcards. We did these every night, usually ending with me crying, until I knew them. By 6th grade, math was really easy for me because I knew the basics. This allowed me to concentrate on understanding. First you learn how to do it, then you understand by doing it. Thanks Daddy!
