I was watching a documentary on Pompeii – the city in Rome that was completely covered by volcanic ash thousands of years ago, making it a sight to behold for excited tourists and overwhelmed chimney sweeps. We now know that the people of Pompeii were warned of the impending disaster by huge earthquakes that hit the city. Many people left but some stayed. What could be so important that some would stay in a collapsing city? Well, some of the bones found recently are permanently dyed green by a chemical reaction between the bones and… gold. These people were clutching huge amounts of gold when they gasped their final breath. As the world crashed and burned around them, many only feared for their jewelry. ...Sound familiar?
