I watched Green Lantern earlier in the night. I know a lot of people rag on this comic adaptation, but its solid entertainment. Its not great, but Id argue (despite the first line of English dialogue in the film being cheesy) its a decent Superhero flick. Its on the same level as Dare-Devil; its not bad, but it didnt live up to its potential. The after-credits scene of Sinestro slipping on the yellow ring of fear didnt make much sense - since wed been shown his reconciliation with Hal Jordan - so this left you feeling bewildered at the end of the movie. There were a few problems with the main villain of the film; it was too immaterial - we shall say - and so you couldnt really perceive a major threat to our hero. This same villain problem was made aware, also, in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer which most comic purists were peeved about. When you make a villain make it physical; this should be a rule for Superhero movies in particular. Now, the special effects (or the trick photography for you old timers) were brilliant, and its just AWESOME seeing the green lanterns planet of operations. Ryan Reynolds was a great Hal Jordan; I hope they bring him back for Justice League. Blake Lively was great too as, Carol Ferris, the love interest of Hal Jordan. Reynolds and Lively shared some good screen time; they had chemistry. All in all Ill watch Green Lantern again, but - as Im used to saying - Im the exception to the rule.
