I watched Inside Llewellyn Davis today and realized *why* that Academy had ignored this fine movie for any Academy Awards. Its bleak and dark, though not as grim as 12 Years A Slave, of course. Unlike Solomon Northrups story, however, Llewellyns doesnt get a happy ending. Even though the movie has some really fine singing, the Coen Brothers early 60s is not bright and cheery like Matthew Weiners early 60s. In addition, Llewellyns story reminds of Barton Fink, another tale of a show biz type who went nowhere. Unlike Barton, Llewellyns problem isnt lack of artistic output. It is mostly because he is a supreme dick and, at the very least, makes poor social choices.
