I watched the press conferences today from #Ferguson Missouri, and the story is now that Michael Brown, the dead 18-year old, did a strong arm robbery at a convenience store (punched a clerk) to steal some cigars. I would caution against a reflexive law and order, the kid had it coming reaction just the same as I would dismiss the racial aspect that the hustlers promote. The fact is, the stealing of cigars doesnt justify what some term a field execution. There are credible eyewitnesses insisting Brown had been running away, and was shot with his hands up. This wouldnt make it a good shoot. Consider a scenario you could find yourself in - Say that a dirtbag breaks into your house, scares you, whatever, and you go after him...Lets say he even went after your gun, but he breaks off and is running away from your home, and you blast him during the flight., with the threat gone.YOU GO TO JAIL. Cool heads need to prevail. Unarmed doesnt mean Un-Dangerous, but robbery suspect doesnt mean blast him, either. And the militarized camo-clad response from government agents bring shame upon what We The People have let our civilian police forces become. Finally, the rioting, and soiling of innocent property owners, and residents own neighborhoods, in reaction to frustration over government policy, makes me question whether weve lost the ability to self-govern. When people lose the ability to self-govern, the police state will be there to fill the vacuum.
