I watched this 1983 documentary on Marx and Marxism last - TopicsExpress

I watched this 1983 documentary on Marx and Marxism last night. One of the things which really struck me are the parallels between what happened in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s and whats happening in the world now, in terms of the unequal distribution of wealth: groups of workers, who have little capital, began to push back against those in power / those who owned the means of production. Watching the films of the MASSIVE groups of people protesting the economic climate in the 20s reminded me of the Occupy movements, and looking at the behaviour of the police in controlling those massive crowds seemed all too familiar, although back then there was no riot equipment, no rubber bullets, no tear gas.... It seems to me - and Ive been saying this for a while - that the increasing militarisation of the police, the increased powers of arbitrary detention, ubiquitous surveillance, etc, are actually examples of the powers that be hedging their bets against the predictions of Karl Marx that workers will, eventually, attempt to overthrow their governments on account of the inequalities they face. Was Marx right? https://youtube/watch?v=m8bdndigRA8
