I went to Honduras on a mission to teach English, but then I visited the cardboard villages along the rivers from Hurricane Mitch... it hit in 1998! This is 2014, sixteen years later and these people are still living in cardboard boxes. I witnessed schools without working toilets, watched families walk for miles pulling huge carts meant to be pulled by horses, carts full to overflowing with discarded material to dumps for pennies. I road on a bus after being warned of the robbery of a foreigner that took place on that very bus earlier that week. And, I wondered why I was warned and not the passengers? These are children, babies... young children!!! So many of my fellow Americans wrap themselves in the Bible and then thump down on people just wanting to be free...just a little freedom. To those who love to thump the Bible in my face and say we dont embrace religion enough... What Would Jesus Do? Sending $250,000,000 to the Central American states is a bandaid on an open wound. We need to sit down and have a serious discussion on what is the Mission of the United States of America, Bombs or Diplomacy? Pick one. One makes the 1% richer, the other makes the entire world richer.
