I went to see a movie tonight. While there I saw a preview for a new Paddington movie. It looks like another bland family movie where the quirky new familiy member teaches the uptight, workaholic father to play with his kids. All fairly generic, except for one thing... I read some of the books when I was a kid. I remember a grumpy neighbor who was annoyed by Paddington but no serious antagonist, so Hollywood had to create one for this movie. They created an evil taxidermist who discovers Paddington can talk, and decides a sapient bear is so unique she has to stuff him for her collection. Thats even worse than Cruella De Vil! At least Cruella was only killing dumb animals (from her perpective, at least). This movie has Nicole Kidman trying to kill Paddington BECAUSE she knows he can talk! Its...am I the only one who finds this deeply disturbing?
