I went to the World War II memorial in Washington, DC yesterday on the I 70th anniversary of D-Day to honor those who fell, their families, and the veterans with us today. I remember in my thoughts and prayer the heroism of all who fought with special thoughts and prayers of my father who served as a Marine in WWII, my uncle Walter who died in the Pacific Theater, and my Scoutmaster Howard Salter and high school teachers. The Price of Freedom plaque text: The Price of freedom Freedom Wall holds 4,048 gold stars. Each gold star represents one hundred American service personnel who died or remain missing in the war. The 405, 399 American dead adn missing from World War II are second only to the loss of more than 620,000 Americans during our Civil War. “D-DAY JUNE 6, 1944 YOU ARE ABOUT TO EMBARK UPON THE GREAT CRUSADE TOWARD WHICH WE HAVE STRIVEN THESE MANY MONTHS. THE EYES OF TEH WORLD ARE UPON YOU . . .I HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE IN YOUR COURAGE, DEVOTION TO DUTY AND SKILL IN BATTLE. GENERAL DWIGHT D.
