I will be screening Gary Hustwits documentary Objectified this - TopicsExpress

I will be screening Gary Hustwits documentary Objectified this coming Saturday, November 16, at Mlabbas art space at 7:30 p.m. Objectified, as the title implies, explores when art, or anything man-made, becomes a sought after commodity. As an illustrator who is constantly trying to create illustrations and artwork, or what I like to call artwork, exploring this aspect of life and work is of utmost importance to me. When your work becomes a sought after object it becomes in a way of value to those who seek it. These individuals all have reasons of their own to why they are seeking someones work/ mind vomit - delicious mind vomit. Why do we buy art or other things that arent really necessary for our physical survival in this life like food, medication and water? A clear answer on my part is that such objects give us a moral boost in imagination and spirit. I experience this when I take pleasure in an illustration that I bought of an artist I admire. Which is why it would be fatal for an artist/designer to ask the following question: Why do I create what I create? Is it adding anything to humanity; anything other than an aesthetic effect be it momentary or eternal for a group of humans? The above is what I believe Objectified will help me answer thanks to Hustwits vision and ability to interpret this aspect of life that is intertwined with design and art by interviewing creatives who have been through a lot to get where they are. Of course you are free to join me this Saturday at 28 Rainbow St. to enjoy this documentary. Thank you Imad Shawa for providing the films the and the space.
