I will be traveling to Boston this week to compete in the Boston - TopicsExpress

I will be traveling to Boston this week to compete in the Boston International Piano Competition. This is an event, held every two years, that is open to folks over age 30 who do NOT make their primary living playing or teaching piano. The preliminaries will take place this Thursday and Friday, June 20-21. I am scheduled to perform in the preliminary round on Thursday, June 20 at 8:15 pm. (Each contestant gets a 15-minute slot.) I’ll be playing three short pieces, one each by Scarlatti, Kreisler/Rachmaninoff, and Moszkowski. If I make it to the semifinals (held on Saturday), I’ll play Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”; if I should make it to the finals (Sunday), I’ll play Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” The contest will be streamed on the Internet but will not be archived, so if you’d like to watch and listen in you have to do so in “real time.” (Some performances may later be uploaded to YouTube.) The competition website’s main page has a link (bottom of page) for the live streaming. If you wish, you can also check out all 50 competitors including brief bios, their programs for the competition, and their time slots in the preliminaries. I assume the site will be updated with lists and schedules for the semifinals (to be announced Friday night) and finals (to be announced Saturday night). Here’s the link: bostonpianoamateurs.org/Competition.html Alternatively, you can get to the streaming site with the following link: longy.edu/concerts/concerts_calendar.htm (Click on the box for Live Streaming.) Best regards to all, Jeremy
