I will jail looters —Buhari: All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential standard-bearer, General Muhammad Buhari, has vowed to jail any public servant who loots the treasury after he becomes president. Speaking during a campaign rally at Old Gusau airstrip on Wednesday night, Buhari noted that if he became president, he would draw a line and looters of the treasury would not go unpunished. ‘‘If I am elected as your next president, any person who loots the treasury will not be spared. I am assuring you, he or she will go to jail,’’ he stressed. The former head of state, who spoke in Hausa, remarked that the stealing of public funds had become fashion, saying that, if you don’t steal, you will be regarded as an old school. According to him, if elected, within the next two years, he would clear all the mess on the table and put the nation’s on the path of economic and political progress. The APC presidential candidate reiterated his determination to educate the youth by resuscitating our ailing educational system, stressing that ‘‘when you give education to the youth, they will be able to sustain themselves.’’ He charged the youth to join in this crusade of changing the existing status quo if they wanted a secured nation where the rule of law and true federalism would prevail. The former Nigerian leader also promised to re-organise and re-structure the army and police, maintaining that the present state of the military was a disgrace to a country like Nigeria. ‘‘Just recently, some of our soldiers were speaking to a foreign medium and they were saying they lacked equipment and motivation to fight Boko Haram,’’ he declared. Earlier, the state governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, extolled the leadership qualities of the General, insisting that he had been tested and trusted and ‘‘we should not hesitate to give him another chance.’’ Yari assured the APC candidate that he would win convincingly in the state by a wide margin, promising that, ‘‘PDP will only get 3 per cent of the expected total votes cast.’’ Also speaking on the occasion, the Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organisation in the state, Alhaji Umar Bature Sambo, said Buhari was the only available option for Nigerians and called on the people of the state to vote en masse for him during the next presidential poll.
