I will never quite understand why anyone could possibly imagine an artist, writer or musician to be anything less then a entity put on this earth to question, speak out, stir things up. We are not sheep nor submissive. We never got a real job or conformed. We suffer because of our rebellion to society expectations and popular opinion. Being an artist is not an act, it is our Being. Every cell in our body is part of our art and music, what we speak, do, think is all part of who we are. We never conformed, we were the weird kids, the rejects, the black sheep. We suffered and then we got used to it. We learned to like ourselves and have fun with it. And when we see shit that upsets us, then we have no problem ignoring any tape made to shut up our mouths. We say it as we see it, and its been this way since the earth began. Artists, musicians, writers just cant be who they are if they are told to ignore, shut up, and conform. Our actions, events, and experiences are coming from our own passions. We are always absorbing outside events, experiences, interactions into our art. Weve learned to detach, and speak, write, act and avoid feeling heartache. But our voice, our expression is an enormous part of us in subtle or blunt ways. We decide on our own how we will best express it. And then we give it life. It will be tempting to love or hate an artist. But consider the beautiful suffering we already endure in being fully consumed with our passions. I encourage us all to try and view the world from each artists perspective, and encourage and support in any way you can. Sorrel Mae Florence
